I had some great meetings with librarians of all levels this week. What was interesting was the varying degrees of conversations on eBooks and databases. Some said they could see them related in a sense… I can see that, it is all content and many databases are rain from book content, but updated more frequently.
The other interesting topics was eBooks…. Ok not surprising but comments were. Such as we’ll never have physical readers. I asked why and they said that they will be harder to manage and the line of what thy can loan is questionable an not clear. Google came up as well and I am seeing a mounting pile of people that don’t trust them nor want to use them. Even as far as them not allowing google scholar as a source.
This does and doesn’t surprise me, I think people are waking up from the google dream and realizing that everything isn’t pretty and neat as described. I believe more of this will occur and people will look hard and long at how they will implement eBooks. Which I think is good, but they need good information as well.
Just a thought from the airport bar and grill. Cheers, it’s Friday tomorrow.
